Goessel Library celebrates Libri Grant for books

Seth Chumbley of Goessel gets some up-close and personal attention from volunteer firefighter Karen Dalk during a grant celebration July 8 at the Goessel Library. The library was highlighting the acquisition of more than $1,400 worth of children?s books from the Libri Foundation during its final summer reading even. An anonymous donor provided $350 for the required matching funds. Bill Strawbridge and Meg Wallhagen donated an additional $350 worth of math and science books. In accordance with the summer reading theme of ?Every Hero Has a Story,? the children learned from the local heroes of the Goessel Volunteer Fire Department. Fire Chief Galen Miller demonstrated how to use fire extinguishers and the parts of the fire engine. Dalke exhibited the volunteers? protective gear. The kids then created their own pretend fire extinguishers to take home, using spray bottles and red duct tape. To conclude the celebration, free snow cones were served to all library visitors.
